International trade is a field that is exercised in and out of the country. Usually a person graduated in this field has to have knowledge of several languages in order to function with ease in the field.
One of the most important languages is English. This for some years it has been used by a lot of people, and most especially those who travel constantly studying or a career that requires it.
I study English because I am a student of international trade and need to have enough knowledge to be able to cope when I start to pursue my career.
The English language in international trade is a fundamental and very important, very useful and necessary work that is largely outside the country, in international companies and airports.
It is important to master the English in its four fields, and it is also desirable to have a lot of ability to speak and to write in order to have good communication and a good performance.
Could be that you're working in an international airport and a flight arrives in a country where there are only American that speek English, and people who come require information concerning the shipment is a shipment at that time will be needed to handle very well the language in order to establish good communication and all are satisfied with the deal being offered.
That is why the English language is paramount for people to trade internationally, so they can function in any field.

Since it abre to me many doors abroad and even inside the country, with I can realise international businesses with companies or networks I can realise it to this using all the abilities. English is important in the development of my career because it allows me to communicate with people from other countries. It´s essential at first because I can get communication for example via –email with customers and can do business with foreign companies. Also, at the time to travel and meet people, discuss items of an agenda as prices, agreements etc. out of the country. The skills as listening, reading, writting and speaking the English language are really important, however, I think that the most fundamental to know is reading and writing, because in case that I have to get in touch with someone oversees in a company that i am supposed to be working with, I can understand what they are requesting from me and if I know how to write I could have and answer for them.

“INTERNATIONAL TRADE”
International trade is mainly about imports and exports of products with other countries. English is a universal language that is very important to me. In my job, I need to speak and understand the language to communicate with my clients. For me, most important aspects are to speak with clarity and fluency, and listening and understand what people want to say. I want to work in an important company such as Procter and Gamble.
Examples of a day today activity at work:
• As a business executive I need to travel to a conference about the profitability of some product with people of others countries and I will be the most appropriate person to go because I speak English.
• If I have a business negotiation of my company with a Canadian company. The business is to export the Pantene line to Canada.

I think that english is very important and essential, because it is the most used language around the world. In mi carrer is very necesary speak english, because in my job I have a daily contact with clients that speak this lenguage, I need talk with more clarity, listen and understand very well of what they are talking to me.
* Example:
- I´m a manager in the company that makes and commercializes electrical equipments in Venezuela, it is the most important in the country.
One day a client call from New York that wants to buy certain quantity of computers, the secretary doesn´t have permission to give any imformation. Then she reports to me to talk with the client, the same one doesn´t speak spanish. In this moment, is necessary that talk english very clear and listen good, to comunicate with this person and he understand me without any problem.
Genesis you have reason, the english is very important for us at this moment, because it is very necessary to have a communication with the majority of the persons in the world. I say that the english is the language that moves the trade, in our case.
How will I English in International trade?
Formy carrer I will use English in three different ways: writing, speaking and reading.
In writing: In International Trade I can use English to draft and prepare documents related with merchandise exchange. Another use is to transcribe different texts or transactions with foreing companies.
In speaking: Speaking Is a valuable tool in business and it is more relevant when we are working in international trade. English is useful, and it has become a universal language. It will help me in work conversations with people from other countries. And as a consequence, to have a good performance in international meetings.
In reading: I will need to research concepts, client backgrounds, products or just understand texts and commercial letters. Most of them, will probably be in English. A good commander the language, in grammar and vocabulary will save me a lot of valuable time because I won’t need to use the dictionary constantly.

English is very important in my profession because, I will work with people of many countries. I would like learn other lenguages, but first should be English because in the International Trade, English has been since twentieth century till today, “the common code” in the world of the bussines. I think the most important skill in English is to read and write. We must remember that International Trade haves laws, and I am sure that these laws are written in English. If you have a good understanding of reading, you can understand these laws perfectly and this is very very important. I also think that the way more fast to contact with a people of other country is internet. Of course that we will "talk" personally with this people but the first time is a email (this is an example of the great importance of read and write).

Jonnathan, I find your comment on the use of English for understanding the international trade regulations and law very interesting.
I agree with the fact that learning other languages is a must, as they say "the more the merrier"; however, Italian is only spoken in Italy, so unless you know for sure you will do business with Italian companies, it is probably wiser to invest your time in learning languages that have a wider use.
In my opinion Chinese is a language that some of you should consider learning, due to the fact that they are spreading their business all over the world, and our country already does a lot of busness with them.
Ronny is right when he points out the importance of understanding "perfectly" both spoken and written language because in business any misunderstanding of facts can lead to losing a lot of money.

In my opinion english is important for international trade because it helps to develop relations with vendors. It also helps with documents and transactions.
English is one of the most importants languages in the world. Nowadays it´s spoken by 402 million natives, and by 1000 million non-nantives, worldwide.
If I have to go to a foreign country for business, I will obviously need English for people to understand me and make myself understood.
Writing and reading are the skills wich I think I´ll need the most. Eg: reading or writing documents.

International trade is one of the oldest trades in the world, the domain of trade, there were many wars, this motion is nothing but an exchange of goods and services between 2 nations, and in my opinion for any person exercising this profession is paramount importance to know the English language and completely dominate (read, write, speak, hear), the professional who is fluent in the language will have a huge advantage with respect to other professionals in this office, why? the English over the years has become the universal language, that is not as tough as other languages, everyone has access to it, in this world is doing business among all countries, for example something that happens very often if not always, is that 2 countries whose official language is not English conduct their trade agreements in this language because it's the best they can communicate well and effectively carry out their agreements or treaties.
And good in my career I submit many occasions where you have to use this language would be an example that I would negotiate with some French but I do not know the French language and French people do not know Spanish but you know English, and then, as we both know this language there is a better relationship and communication between the two and is more feasible to reach agreement.

In regard to your speaking/writing and Manuel's comment, I would like to add that some people have a different view on which skill is more important depending on what they intend to do in their future job.
For example, if you like to be "behind the scenes" --so to speak-- and review the business agreements and regulations, then reading and writing are a must. But if you plan to be in the front row right at the negotiating table closing deals, speaking would be your main asset.
