Oral Presentation Guidelines



For week 11, you have to prepare a brief team oral presentation related to the contents of the units studied in class. This activity’s value point is 10.

Following are some guidelines for the presentation and the evaluation criteria.

  • Each team will have 15-18 minutes for their presentation.
  • Teams must prepare a PPT slide show or a handout for the rest of the class.
  • Topics are: Dreams and Plans (Unit 7), A national/international hero (Unit 8), The meaning of dreams (Unit 9, Early memories (Unit 9).
  • Each team must send me their visual aids and general organization plan before the presentation.
  • Evaluation Criteria:

Team work: Organization, time frame, visual aids and content (4 pts.).

Individual work: Facial expression, posture, enthusiasm, pauses,

clarity of speech, fluency (6 pts.).

  • Detailed guidelines were sent to you by email. Please print them out and bring to class on Tuesday 4.

    R1 - Reading Activity 1

    • This is a group activity / collaborative process consisting of reading two short extracts.
    • Each reading is followed by a number of questions to be answered based upon what is stated or implied in the texts. (There are two types of questions: vocabulary & reading comprehension.)
    • After silent reading, the teams will choose the best answer to each question from the answer choices listed and fill out the answer sheet.
    • This activity’s point value is 5

    Midterm Exam - Oct 28

    • The midterm exam will be on Tuesday 28 (week 7) in the Big Lab. at your usual class time.
    • This exam has five sections: Listening Comprehension, Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading and Writing.
    • The exam covers:

    W1 – Writing Assignment 1 - Unit 7 – Dreams

    Following the Writing Process, finish writing the paragraph that you drafted in class.

    These are the guidelines given in class:
    • Pay careful attention to syntax, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    • Format your Word docs using font Arial 12 and double space.
    • Send your assignment (Word doc attached) to aprendoingles@gmail.com
    • Name your docs like this Sec#_Act#_LastName
    • Make sure you use the topic you chose as the title of your paragraph.
    • Bring the cluster diagram & the outline done on Thursday to our next class.

    Methodology

    The dynamics of the class require that you come to class prepared, that is:
    • Pre-check the book's units before class.
    • Look up new vocabulary in your dictionary.
    • When possible, complete the exercises and answer the questions.
    • Listening comprehension practices will be done in the Lab on Tuesdays (unless advised otherwise).
    • Oral practice exercises, dialogues & rol plays will be done in every class.
    • Writing & reading activities will be done in class (individually or in groups) and will include:
      - New vocabulary discussion (meaning & interpretation).
      - Exercise and answer revision.
      - Questions and discussions on detailed understanding of the texts.
